This series is on the History Channel, if you have Rogers Cable. It’s similar to X-Files but most of the stories are based on true events. It is inspired by Dr. J Allen Hynek’s investigations for the U.S. Air Force into the existence of UFO’s.
Each episode has an investigation that sends Dr. Hynek and his associate from the Air Force in an attempt to discredit the sightings made by townsfolk. The series starts in the year 1947 and visit live stories and investigations up to 1970.
Dr. Hynek is the main character who has been hired by the U.S. Air Force to travel with Captain Quinn to areas of the United States. Their mission is to ensure there isn’t a panic over stories of aliens and visitations from outer space. Dr. Hynek is intrigued but starts to realize that there may be some realism to the stories. Each time Captain Quinn tries his hardest to convince the Dr. that his findings are just fake or misconceived, Dr. Hynek looks that much closer to the evidence before him.
The first episode is when Dr. Hynek is tasked to take on the challenge and he almost gets himself killed by trying to recreate the events of an incident experienced from one of the fighter pilots.
Second episode happens in Flatwoods, West Virginia where a mother and her two children sees what they believe is a spaceship crashing down from the sky. After witnessing looking straight into the eyes of an alien they take off and almost immediately Dr. Hynek and Captain Quinn are sent on the scene. With every investigation he encounters, it seems the government hides a little more.
Dr. Hynek is played by the actor in Game of Thrones (Aidan Gillen) “Littlefinger” Baelish. He plays the character very well. I like the investigative mystery of the show and how it tries to discount the extraterestrial findings while at the same time, trying to see the truth.
